Tattoo Removal with Laser

What devices are used in laser tattoo removal?

Q-switched lasers are the most commonly used device in tattoo removal treatment. Q-switched lasers break the tattoo dye into small pieces so that it can be easily absorbed by the cells. Fractional lasers can be used in combination with Q-switched lasers to help the cells remove the tattoo dye more quickly.

What devices are used in laser tattoo removal depending on the color of the tattoo?

Q-switched Nd:YAG 1064 nm can be used for removal of dark blue and black tattoos in light and dark skinned people. When removing red tattoos, the Q switched 532 nm Nd:YAG laser removes the red color best. Be careful, however, as this laser is very sensitive to the color in dark-skinned people, stains may remain. When removing green tattoos, Q-switched ruby (694 nm) and Q-switched alexandrite (755 nm) remove green color best. Care should be taken when using these types of lasers on dark-skinned people, as stains may remain.

How do the lasers used in laser tattoo removal work?

Lasers used for tattoo removal split the dye under the skin into small pieces. As a result, the cells swallow the dye and remove these dyes from the skin with the lymph flow.

During laser tattoo removal, the tattoo temporarily turns white. This may mean that the laser is effective.

Why are some tattoos not completely removed despite many treatments?

Because tattoo artists use different brands and substances, the results of laser tattoo removal may vary, even if the tattoos are the same color. Some tattoo colors may not be completely broken down by the laser. As a result, tattoo removal may fail. For this reason, each tattoo removal procedure is individual and treatment results may vary.

Which tattoo colors are the most difficult to remove with a laser?

Purple, green and yellow tattoos are the most difficult to treat. Ideal patients for tattoo removal have fair skin, are not tanned, have dark blue, navy blue or black tattoos and have tattoos that are at least one year old. Long standing tattoos respond better to the treatment.

How many sessions are required for laser tattoo removal?

Amateur tattoos require 4-6 sessions, whereas professional tattoos require 6-10 sessions and sometimes more. Tattoos that have been recently stung and have deep-seated color require more sessions.

Is the treatment successful for tattoos in the eyebrow area?

Amateur tattoos are very easy to remove with the laser. However, for professional tattoos, the sessions take longer. Sometimes the tattoo can remain as a shadow despite very long sessions. For white, pink and flesh colored tattoos, a test shot is inevitable. These colored tattoos may suddenly turn black because the iron or titanium oxide particles in them are oxidized by the Q-switched laser.
