SKIN TAGS

In medical terminology, they are called skin tags or acrochordons.

Skin tags are most common in middle-aged and elderly people. Obesity, pregnancy, menopause, and hormonal disorders can cause an increase in skin tags. The most common sites for skin tags are the neck, armpit, upper body and eye area.

They are painless and can grow and multiply over time. In rare cases, skin tags can become irritated, darken in color and become painful.

They are single or multiple 1-3 mm, light brown or brown, soft and pedunculated structures. In recent years, human papillomavirus has been detected in 80% of skin tags. If the skin tags are very numerous and widespread, the patient should be evaluated for intestinal polyps and hormonal imbalances.

What treatments are available for skin tags?

  • Radiofrequency
  • Cryotherapy (ice therapy)
  • Laser
  • Surgery

They can be treated just as easily and painlessly.
